Herbicide receives federal label registration for use on springwheat
New GoldSky herbicide has received federal registration for use inspring wheat, Dow AgroSciences announced. GoldSky deliversexcellent control of tough grass weeds, including wild oat andyellow foxtail, and suppression of green foxtail. In addition tograss control, GoldSky also controls a broad spectrum of broadleafweeds, such as kochia, wild mustard and wild buckwheat.
GoldSky is the sixth new herbicide product Dow AgroSciences hasbrought to the wheat market since 2004.
The new product delivers control of difficult grasses in springwheat, including yellow foxtail and wild oats--evenACCase-resistant wild oats. GoldSky also controls a broad spectrumof tough broadleaf weeds, including kochia, wild mustard, pigweed,lambsquarters, wild buckwheat and Russian thistle.
In 2007 field trials conducted in the northern Plains, GoldSkyherbicide provided excellent control of wild oats and yellowfoxtail compared with commonly used grass weed treatments in springwheat. GoldSky also delivered outstanding control of multiplebroadleaf weeds compared with industry standards.
GoldSky offers growers complete rotational flexibility to cropslike field corn, sorghum, canola, potatoes, peas, lentils,sugarbeets, soybeans and sunflowers the next growing season. Mostcrops commonly grown in rotation with wheat may be grown 9 monthsfollowing an application of GoldSky.
Growers can apply GoldSky postemergence to actively growing springwheat from the three-leaf to the jointing stage with excellent cropsafety. Brett Oemichen, Crop Protection Field R&D Specialistfor Dow AgroSciences, recommends applying 1 pint per acre ofGoldSky herbicide to wild oats and foxtail between the two-leaf andtwo-tiller stage of growth and to broadleaf weeds before theyexceed 2 inches in height or 2 inches in diameter for best results.
